Mid-weight designer

Who we are

Studio are a multi-disciplined creative agency within the wider OBI group powered by a team of storytellers, creators and brand experts. We craft, tailor, and refine through in-depth research and strategic analysis to create work that stands out, adds lasting value and forges relationships with our clients. We’re experts in designing for the built environment and utilise the knowledge of the wider OBI transactions & asset management, building services and workplace teams.

 

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for a mid-weight to senior designer to join our growing team. We’re looking for someone who has several years of experience with a strong set of foundation design skills (artworking, type setting and preparing documents for large scale production). You’ll have a desire to grow within the business, be motivated to learn and keen to feed from the variety of skillsets that OBI has to offer. You’ll be working within the Studio team alongside designers, animators and film makers delivering innovative and challenging solutions for our clients communicating their stories. The main tasks will be brand & placemaking strategy, visual identity design, wayfinding, editorial design and daily studio admin.

 

Our clients are varied but we mainly work within the built environment developing brand identities for large scale developments, workplace and occupier related organisations. An interest in this field would be beneficial. Some of our recent clients include AO, Enterprise City, Arrive, City Tower and Allied London. What we will expect from you

  • Have a mid/senior level skillset within design and keep up-to-date with industry standards
  • Have a strong knowledge and understanding of the design industry
  • Work with the other designers to produce an expert level on finish for each project while considering deadline and budget
  • Explain and present design decisions internals and to clients
  • Work collaboratively within our team as well as independently
  • Take responsibility as part of a service
  • Identify user issues and important needs
  • Bring an enthusiastic attitude to the workplace and team

 

Requirements

  • A portfolio full of strong conceptual ideas that are executed and communicated to the highest standard
  • A high level of accuracy and an obsessive attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A degree or equivalent experience in design
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (particularly InDesign & Illustrator)
  • Expert knowledge of print and large-scale production
  • Digital design best practices
  • Your talent comes without ego, and you see collaboration across disciplines as a way to make the work stronger
  • Confident to share ideas as well as keen listener to others

 

What we offer

  • Salary of £30,000 – £35,000
  • Bonus – You will be part of a discretionary bonus arrangement (announced annually in May).
  • Flexible working – 5 day (37.5hrs) working week with core hours 10am – 4pm, 1 day work from home a week and an earlier finish on Friday.
  • Holidays – 25 days plus bank holidays, and we shut the office between Christmas and New Year without the need to use your annual leave.

Research Analyst

Job Role 

OBI are seeking a talented and ambitious individual to join a newly created role that will work predominately within the Workplace Consultancy team. You will be an individual who is passionate about developing a career within the built environment and is excited about data and the stories held within. 

At OBI the Research Analyst will be instrumental in supporting the setup, management and conducting of qualitative and quantitative research projects, enabling our teams to provide best-in-class insight to clients and peers within the industry. The individual will need a creative flair to come up with innovative insights and communicate these findings in a commercially focused manner to a variety of stakeholders. 

The role will focus upon undertaking surveys, questionnaires and interviews with OBI clients to formulate data which will be utilised to formulate client briefs / space requirements for their office premises.  The candidate will need an interest in workplace consultancy and build a knowledge base to explain the various working practices to clients.  Communicating the findings and providing data driven conclusions will be an important part of the role. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

General Responsibilities 

 

  • Develop a good understanding of different qualitative and quantitative research methods. 
  • Demonstrate pro-activity in learning new research techniques. 
  • Support the setup, management and moderation of research projects both internal and external. 
  • Support the design of surveys and guides for focus groups and field research. 
  • Extraction of data from surveys and research projects, analysing the data and communicating findings to stakeholders. 
  • Conducting surveys and interviews. 

 

Workplace Consultancy 

  • Predominantly working with the Workplace Consultancy team to develop and implement research techniques, surveys and interviews. 
  • Analysing statistical data to highlight key trends and provide clients with best-in-class advise on their workplace practices and requirements. 
  • Providing data-driven conclusions that help formulate the clients space requirements and client brief. 

 

Studio 

  • OBI’s inhouse Studio team develop brands, telling the story of buildings and their occupiers. As part of the research team, you will support the Studio team in developing consumer insights specific to the individual project. 

 

Transactions & Asset Management 

  • As part of OBI’s Office Consultancy and Advisory services, we provide the industry with a variety of thought leadership, understanding industry trends and the collection of key data is paramount to reputable thought leadership. The research team support in the collection and analysis of this data. 

 

Role requirements: 

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree  

 

Key Skills:  

  • Advanced skills in Excel including data visualisation and PowerPoint. 
  • Ability to work autonomously, flexibly and show initiative. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written as well as verbally) with an ability to build working relationships internally and externally. 
  • Deadline & quality driven with high personal standards.

Chartered Building Surveyor

The Role

The newly created role will involve working as part of an experienced team of five within the Building Consultancy team. We require an energetic and hardworking individual who wants to work in a dynamic and entrepreneurial office.

Main responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Planning and overseeing building work on a range of commercial projects up to £10 million;
• Project management of multidisciplinary teams;
• Working knowledge of the JCT suite of contracts and experience in administering;
