Web for newsPart of the former Granada site in Manchester city centre is to be developed into a dedicated media hub which will be known as Hello House.

Developer Allied London, which acquired the site in joint venture with Manchester City Council last year, is to transform the Old Granada HQ extension building into a workspace for both start-ups and established businesses.

Allied London takes control of the Old Granada Studios on 1 June and the redevelopment will begin immediately.

The scheme will include a media roof bar and social club for press launches and events, which could also be opened up to the public.

Confirmed occupiers include Echo PR, Manchester Confidential and Journey9 as well as a radio station and two start-ups.

Michael Ingall, chief executive at Allied London, said: “We have been supporting a number of young start-up and early growth media companies in Spinningfields, which we are now going to relocate into Hello House, creating a hub for PR, marketing and media companies.”

“More importantly, we aim to establish a media, tech and innovation proposition at Old Granada that we will nurture and support. We hope that this will become embedded in our long-term development plans.”

“We believe our immediate short term masterplan at Old Granada studios will ultimately inform our wider development plans for St Johns. We think we can quickly and successfully start developing areas of the site particularly where we intend to retain certain buildings.”

“Several of the areas will be very attractive as a media, tech and innovation proposition enhanced particularly by the forthcoming Ordsall chord.”

Allied London, which is currently working on proposals for the long-term use of the site, said it is planning a residentially-led “modern village” scheme.

Emma Powell of OBI Property, leasing agent of Hello House said “We believe in the value of clusters and co-location where people can come together to communicate and collaborate with each other, share their progress, their workload, their responsibilities, ideas and successes.”
