The £2.5 million refurbishment of Sunlight House on Quay Street, Manchester is designed with ‘Manchester’ at the heart of the creative concept, which draws inspiration from the city and its people. The theme was decided when colleagues gathered together with the design team for core ideas for each floor.
Each of the five floors, totalling 63,000 sq ft are inspired by icons that are intrinsic to Manchester’s rich heritage including ‘Science and Industry’, ‘The Northern Quarter’ and ‘Manchester Culture.’
Central to everything is the Hacienda style nightclub which serves as the business cafeteria and central gathering space for different events. Featuring the famous traffic bollards and yellow and black chevrons, with over 100 famous Manchester musical tracks blasting from a wall of reclaimed speakers housing the digital jukebox.
Ian Brown, CEO of Rentalcars.com, said: “Our goal was to create an office that is more than just a place to work. We wanted to create a working space that our colleagues are inspired by and can be proud of.
“To make sure we achieved this, we asked them what they wanted it to be, and kept them actively involved in the design throughout.
Darius Baniabassian, Workplace Consultancy of OBI Property said: “Inspiration for the project came about from the general demographic of the team members who would work in Sunlight House. The majority are below 30 years of age and originate from all over Europe making use of their foreign language skills to aid the business. In effect the business could operate in any location in Britain, but this is Manchester and we wanted to show them what an amazing city this is.”
