Law firm Shoosmiths has agreed a deal to let the 9th floor at Bruntwood’s Platform in the first letting during the refurbishment for the landmark building above Leeds station.
Shoosmiths has signed ten- year lease to take 9,720 sq ft at Platform, formerly known as City House, which is due to reach Practical Completion in May 2017. Whilst the refurbishment of Platform is completed Shoosmiths will be temporarily based at Bruntwood’s West One on Wellington Street.
The new office is part of Shoosmiths’ strategy to take a larger share of the UK legal market and continue the firm’s expansion. The firm recently recruited three partners for the new office, including office had, Paul Stokey, and announced the recruitment of two further partners.
Paul Stokey, Leeds office head, said: “We are very pleased to announce that Platform will be our home in Leeds. We are sure that its central location will complement our clients’ needs and the firm’s ambitious growth strategy- taking a larger share of the domestic market and growing our practise organically through carefully planned expansion of our teams and services across locations; in response to client demand.
“This office will be very important in our drive to create a Northern hub of legal expertise for Shoosmiths’ clients; with our Leeds and Manchester offices working closely together. We anticipate that we will be recruiting specialists in key fields such as corporate, real estate and commercial disciplines to help us fulfil that goal.”
Andrew Cowell from the Transactions & Asset Management team at OBI Property commented “We are delighted to work with Shoosmiths on this project and bring new inward investment into Leeds. Having completed the acquisition we are now undertaking the design and project management of the office to create a modern and forward thinking workplace that will help them attract the best legal talent”.
Craig Burrow, director at Bruntwood added: “Having worked on Platform for a number of years, I’m thrilled to secure our first letting with Shoosmiths and finally see this building brought back to life and kick start the regeneration of this area.”
