Gallery 1Is rentalcars.com’s new Manchester office, designed and project managed by OBI Property, the coolest office in Britain? According to Mail Online, the Mirror and the Manchester Evening News, it might well be. The office at 35 Fountain Street has garnered a wealth of media coverage, with writers blown away by the originality of thinking, the quality of fit-out and the uniqueness of this landmark working environment.

rentalcars’ space isn’t standard in any way – it includes an open-air cinema and rooftop beach, a games room and 90 flatscreen TVs. There are pool tables, swings and a drive-in style diner, along with film-themed meeting rooms. It’s all about energising people, giving them the drive to fulfil themselves. To fuel the team through the working day, there are free breakfasts, an all-day salad bar and a Starbucks.

Gallery 2Each floor of the building has a theme – road trip and world cars, drive-in movie and metropolis. The colour schemes are bold, the configuration imaginative. The cinema creates opportunities for socialising in down-time, by watching films or playing PS4 with colleagues. The indoor park brings a quieter space, for relaxation or more focused meetings – there’s something for everyone here. As CEO Ian Brown says “At rentalcars we’re proud to be ‘anything but ordinary’ and we wanted a new office space that would really reflect this ethos and the diversity of our team”.

rentalcars.com, which deals with 5 million online car rentals a year, employs 1,000 people in Manchester and already occupies 60,000 sq ft in Sunlight House – as staff members from this office move to 35 Fountain Street, plans to fully refurbish Sunlight House will move ahead. One thing’s for sure – the bar’s been set pretty high.
