The Wrap: OBI’s Take July 2026
26 August 2026Who else could it be but Bev Cariag the new Mayor of Greater Manchester? For the reasons spelled out here https://www.linkedin.com/posts/will-lewis-898abb5_keep-on-moving-greater-manchester-elects-activity-7484930950573887489-t6D4?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop&rcm=ACoAADEuT7UBmaoXxfnQ2cMw-XnkDQjUikYZeYA, Bev was always the best choice, and this resounding victory sends a message of unity and strength.
Another eyecatcher…
No10 North has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? Having genuinely important government business done in Manchester will be a huge catalyst, energising the immediate area and the wider city.
Property deal of the month:
Well done all involved in taking Siemens to Scotscroft, setting a new record rent for South Manchester, in parallel with climbing city centre rents. The breadth of Manchester’s offer beyond the core is a big asset, and the move to Towers keeps a blue-chip name on its home turf. Nice work Joe Rigby, Andrew Timms, Dominic Pozzoni, Richard Dinsdale & Kennedy Wilson.
Business of the month:
Everyone knows Tebay rules supreme in motorway services, so it’s great to see Westmorland Farmshop & Co developing Tatton Services on the M56, securing support from HSBC this month to part-fund it.
What we’ve liked this month:
Running! There’s an open invitation to join OBI Run Club, every Tuesday at 7.45am, starting and finishing here at 80 Mosley Street, for a 30-minute 5k. No better way to start the day.
Meanwhile, eagle-eyed Antiques Roadshow fans may also have enjoyed our own Andrew Cowell’s appearance on the show, from Liverpool’s Sefton Park Palm House. Andrew is not yet antique, but he’s priceless to us.
